The Lazy Mermaid Murals is a custom-built digital portfolio designed to function as an immersive gallery. The project focused on translating the artist's whimsical, oceanic style into a digital experience. The website serves as a central hub for potential clients to explore past work, understand the artist’s process, and initiate commission inquiries, all while maintaining a fast, responsive, and visually rich environment
The primary challenge was to create a digital space that felt as handcrafted and magical as the murals themselves, without sacrificing performance or user experience. High-resolution images of large-scale artworks had to be loaded efficiently, requiring heavy optimization to maintain a smooth scroll and fast load times.
I developed a custom solution utilizing Next.js for robust performance and SEO, paired with Tailwind CSS for rapid and responsive styling. Framer Motion was implemented to add subtle, fluid animations that mimic the "flow" of water, enhancing the thematic feel of the site. I focused on a clean, minimalist layout that allows the vibrant mural photography to take center stage, while strategic color accents (teals, corals, and sands) tie back to the brand identity. The build process also included advanced image optimization to ensure that the art loads beautifully on all devices.
